The Junior All-American Combine in San Antonio has become sort of a coming out party for Cass Tech players over the past few years. Starting with Boubacar Cissoko two years ago and following that with William Campbell this past year, expectations were high for this year's highly rated Technician junior.
And he certainly delivered.
We knew one thing for sure about Dior Mathis entering this combine. He was fast. However, the question remained... how fast? How about 40 yards in 4.49 seconds fast.
And that, frankly, is an inflated time. For years, this Combine has been ran on the quicksand like turf of the Alamodome, and this year was no different.
By comparison to Mathis, one of the nation's top 2010 players, Texas' Lache Seastrunk, ran a 4.5 seconds 40 yard dash. Not only is Seastrunk one of the top football players in 2010, he is also one of the best track runners --- running a 10.64 electricly timed 100 meter dash.
Also, Mathis was impressive in one-on-one drills as well, further raising his stock. Many will cite Mathis' lack of height as a hinderance on his ability, however, his tremendous ball skills along with outstanding cover skills still make him an excellent prospect.
-----------
Mathis is rated as the 5th best player in the state of Michigan in 2010, ranked as a four-star prospect.
